Roadmap to Connection Discussion Group

  • Equality Community Center 15 Casco Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Looking for more connection, community, support, and joy? Feeling lonely or disconnected from the queer community?

We’re gathering this fall to explore what true, authentic community and connection can look like, and to discuss how we might begin to build more of this in our own lives.

We’ll use Mia Birdsong’s book, How We Show Up, to guide our conversations. When I read it, I felt more hopeful, inspired and energized than I had in a long time. The book provides a springboard to discuss how we can queer our friendships and communities. As we read stories of how social connection and community can counteract the forces of patriarchy, capitalism and white supremacy (as well as homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and poverty), I hope we will design a roadmap toward more joy, connection, meaning, and real joy in our lives.

We will explore how we can meet our needs for friendship, connection, touch, financial and emotional well-being, physical support, and community in a way that will endure as we move in and out of romantic and other relationships. We will dig into what it would look like to create a community that helped us feel safe, connected, needed, supported and loved throughout the inevitable ups and downs of our lives.

This will be a monthly gathering to discuss what this community would look like for each of us and how we might begin to build it. You are welcome to join even if you haven’t read the book. Let me know if you need help accessing a copy of the book.

***Masks are required. Please reach out to me if you need a mask for the event.
