Help us meet our goal to raise $4 million through our capital campaign to…

complete renovations of our new home at 15 Casco Street, and bring our vision for a 54-unit affordable housing complex to fruition!

The new housing structure will be located right next to the ECC and open to all those ages 55+, including LGBTQ+ older adults, allies and other marginalized members of our community. Our goal is to make affordable housing available in the heart of Portland with easy access to public services, health care, entertainment and recreation.

We believe that achieving equality and equity requires visibility and access. We aim to be the first point of contact for people seeking resources, services, and programs; by offering co-working space for collaboration, and rental space for community events and gatherings; by being an incubator for creativity and solutions; and by providing affordable rental housing to our community.

The ECC houses LGBTQ+ and allied justice-seeking organizations together under one roof. It’s an incubator for ideas and creativity, for bold dreams and coffee-cup conversations, a seedbed for connections, coalitions, and camaraderie—all made possible when we unite different cultural and social organizations.

Rendering of new housing building to be located right next to the ECC at 25 Casco Street in downtown Portland!

This is an audacious vision and something I would have never dared wish for: a place of safety, honor, respect, dignity, and acceptance.
— Diane Sammer

To bring this project to fruition, the ECC is seeking support from individuals, corporations, businesses, and foundations. We’ve stood shoulder-to-shoulder for decades and have changed the state of Maine forever — its laws and the hearts and minds of its people.

During these times of heightened attacks on LGBTQ+ rights with the most marginalized amongst us bearing the burden including our youth, older adults, our trans and non-binary community, BIPOC folks and immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, the Center represents permanence, safety, and inclusive acceptance for all - an accomplishment for our community that can never be taken away.

We have an opportunity, through the Equality Community Center, to create a legacy for the next generation and a promise to future generations: Maine deserves and can have a place of belonging and renewal and synergy. We hope you’re inspired by this vision and we invite you to be one of the leaders to help build this shared future of equality together.
