About the artists

Skip Brushaber
Skip is a retired nurse/social worker who resides in Westbrook with his fur buddies Gus, Tricks, and Moe. He has done art all his life. Over recent years he studied painting with Mary Brooking of Westbrook. Skip switched to mixed media art a few years ago and he seems to have found his creative niche. He has had a lifelong commitment to social change and has been active most of his adult life to LGBTQ+ rights.

Howard Solomon
Howard Solomon started making found-object sculpture and collage in 2008, after four decades of teaching the history of sexuality at Tufts, NYU, and the University of Southern Maine. For the past six years, he's concentrated on collage.

His art is animated by a life-time of queer activism and social change: the first out faculty member at Tufts, co-chair of Portland's Matlovitch Society, the first Scholar-in-Residence of the LGBTQIA Collection at USM's Sampson Center for Diversity in Maine.

Howard and his husband George Oliver live in Bowdoinham. In addition to his art practice, Howard practices tai chi.
