This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Symposium, a state-wide gathering of LGBTQ+ community members and activists held annually for 25 years. Maine's LGBTQ+ movement grew out of Symposium, and many of the folks engaged in the earlier days of the movement are still engaged in the work. Join us for an intergenerational conversation in which some of the early pioneers of our movement will reflect on lessons learned, and today's youth leaders will share their insights into the road ahead. Free and open to all.

Panelists include:

  • Steven Bull, Co-Founder, Symposium

  • Dale McCormick, Founding President, Maine Lesbian Gay Political Alliance

  • Tom Antonik, People with AIDS Coalition, New York & Maine

  • Betsy Smith, former Executive Director of EqualityMaine

Panel moderator:

  • Wendy Chapkis, Professor of Sociology and Women & Gender Studies, USM

Small group conversations will be facilitated by youth leaders from Portland Outright and current staff from our presenting organizations.
