Speak About It is excited to host Portland's poet laureate Maya Williams to celebrate the release of their newest collection, Refused A Second Date. Maya will read a selection of poems, followed by a conversation and Q&A with Oronde Cruger.

Refused a Second Date is a collection about first dates that prevent chances of there being a second one. The poems center on first date impressions, intergenerational patterns of dating and intimate partner violence, racism in dating, mental health, religion as it relates to sex, and queerness. Refused a Second Date is a love letter to the romantic, platonic, and familial relationships that shape us. Most importantly, it is a love letter to the author's mother shaping how they navigate their relationships.
