May 14, 3:30-4:30 Theater Workshop for Wellness:

Step into the spotlight and embrace your brilliance! Theater Workshop for Wellness is a theatre workshop designed specifically for Queer BIPOC folks to explore confidence, creativity, and self-expression through playful performance. This workshop offers a supportive and affirming space where participants can let loose, tell their stories, and celebrate their identities through movement, improvisation, and character-building. If you're an experienced performer or brand new to theatre, this workshop is all about fun, laughter, and stepping into your power!

Workshop Breakdown:

 Welcome & Warm-up (10 minutes)

  • Name & Gesture Game: Each participant says their name with a dramatic or silly gesture. The group repeats it back.

 Confidence Through Characters (20 minutes)

  • “The Most Dramatic Thing”: In pairs, one person tells a mundane story (e.g., "I made a sandwich"), and the other acts it out as dramatically as possible. Then switch!

 Improvisation & Play (20 minutes, pick 1)

  • Yes, And!: Classic improv exercise where partners build on each other's ideas to create ridiculous, exaggerated stories.

  • Magic Mirror: In pairs, one person moves, and the other mimics exactly, slowly turning into an expressive dance battle.

  • Role Reversal Scenes: Participants act out everyday situations but swap expected roles (e.g., "A teacher begging a student for homework").

Closing Reflection & Dance Party (10 minutes)

  • A quick circle share: "What was your favorite moment today?"

  • Free movement dance party with music to celebrate confidence, silliness, and community!
