A Closer Look: Queer spaces and community memory

  • Equality Community Center 15 Casco Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Hosted by Maine Humanities Council and USM Libraries

Observe, share, listen, and reflect as we visit sites important to the Portland’s LGBTQ+ community. Following a short walking tour lead by Wendy Chapkis and Megan MacGregor, creators of Stepping Out: the Portland, Maine Queer History Trail, we will gather for a community conversation. Participants will be encouraged to add their own memories and present-day experiences to the conversation to help build a living connection to the past of a community whose story is still being written. Each event features different stops – attend one or both!

*Note: Gathering in front of First Parish Unitarian Universalist at 425 Congress St. Discussion will follow at the Equality Community Center after a short walk.
